YUKON, Okla. – Twelve candidates, the Bean Supper Band and a delicious Mexican dinner were all on the agenda Saturday, August 13, when nearly 100 Canadian County Democrats and friends met for their annual banquet and candidate forum.
Mark Hammons, chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, and his wife Laurie Hammons were honored with the Canadian County Democrat of the Year awards.
“Our first winner has been front and center for more than a year in our fight to elect Oklahoma Democrats to the state legislature, statewide and local offices -- as well as to Congress,” Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Jody Harlan said in reference to Mark Hammons, Oklahoma State Democratic Party Chair. “He is calm in a crisis and, when faced with controversy, he seeks solutions rather than placing blame.”
“We recognize our second winner tonight for her outstanding contributions to these same successes – not just as a helper, but as an equal partner who generously shares the workload required to achieve political goals that were once thought to be unattainable,” Harlan read from the nomination for Laurie Hammons.
