YUKON, Okla – Trenton Thornburg, chairman of the Young Democrats of Oklahoma High School Caucus, will speak from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14, at the Canadian County Democrats’ regular monthly meeting.
Democrats and their guests are encouraged to attend. The presentation is free with seating available on a first come, first served basis.
The meeting will be held at the Yukon Police Department conference room located at 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard.
A junior at Dale High School, Thornburg became involved in politics in the wake of the 2012 election cycle.
“I feel that engaging youth, particularly students in high school, is key to the future of the Democratic party,” Thornburg said, adding that youth involvement “provides progressive candidates with young manpower to defeat their conservative opponents.”
Thornburg also serves as programs Director for the High School Democrats of America, making him the only openly LGBT member of the national executive board.
He is a member of the Take Shelter Oklahoma steering committee and operations director for Can’t Convert Love, an organization working to pass laws banning gay-to-straight conversion therapy.
Apart from his political exploits, he is active in his community theatre and attends college concurrently at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.
The Canadian County Democrats regularly meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, except December, at the Yukon Police Department. For more information, phone 405-354-3189.
