Summer FUNraiser to honor El Reno student June 29 at Northwest Community Center

EL RENO, Okla. —The Canadian County Democrats will honor scholarship winner Devante Moore from El Reno at a free Summer FUNraiser from noon to 2 p.m. on Sat., June 29.

Democrats are invited to attend the covered dish dinner at Northwest Community Center, 520 N. Grand, in El Reno. The center is located three blocks west of N. Choctaw/Highway 81 in El Reno. Map: .

The Robert “Bob” Burton Democratic Scholarship is named in honor of the deceased former county vice chair who encouraged young Democrats to become active in the political party.

Burton’s widow Shirley serves as scholarship committee chair with Cathy Stanford and J. P. Hemminger. All are from Yukon.

Moore completed an associate in arts degree Connors State College in Warner.

As a sophomore guard for the Connors Cowboys basketball team, Moore averaged 9.1 points per game /
 He transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the UCO Mustangs.

The Canadian County Democrats have changed meeting locations due to the tornado destruction at Canadian Valley Technology Center. Until further notice, the group will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard in Yukon.
