YUKON, Okla. - The Canadian County Democrats will meet Monday, June 10, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood Blvd.
The group has changed their monthly meeting schedule and location due to the May 31 tornado, which destroyed their regular location at Canadian Valley Technology Center in El Reno.
Until further notice, the Canadian County Democrats will meet on the second Monday of each month, except December, at the same time and location.
Presenters Dr. Kathy Schierman and Susan McCann will update the members at the June meeting about the Affordable Care and Act and Medicaid expansion in Oklahoma.
All Democrats are invited to attend. Seats will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Dr. Scheirman retired as a colonel from the US Air Force after more than 20 years of service. She served as Chief of Medical Operations for U.S. Air Forces in Europe. as commander of the Air Force hospital at Warner Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, twice at Tinker Air Force Base and in Japan and England.
McCann organizes and trains volunteers to support Democratic political candidates in Oklahoma. She was previously chair of Change Oklahoma and now works to expand medical care in Oklahoma.
"Canadian Valley Technology Center has hosted our meetings for more than 10 years," Canadian County Democrats Secretary Shirley Burton said. "We were so sorry to hear about the destruction on the El Reno campus and wish the staff and administration well with their plans to rebuild this outstanding facility."
"We are also very grateful to the Yukon Police Department for providing a new meeting location," she said. "Many of our members are from Yukon, so we looking forward to good attendance."
