EL RENO, Okla. -- Rep. Joe Dorman from Rush Springs will be the featured speaker at the Canadian County Democrats’ first monthly meeting of 2013 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9.

He represents District 65, including Caddo, Comanche, Grady, Stephens and Cotton counties.

Rep. Dorman’s presentation is free and open to the public with seating available on a first come, first served basis. The meeting will be held at Canadian Valley Technology Center, located at 6505 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.

He is the Democratic Party’s minority caucus vice chair. He serves on several key committees: Appropriations & Budget, Appropriations and Budget for Public Safety, Insurance and Rules.

Rep. Dorman serves as a full-time legislator, not holding down a second job due to the time constrains of the work as a state representative. Even when the legislature is not in session, he spends about two days each week at the State Capitol working on constituent issues. The remainder of his time is dedicated to meetings in the district and around Oklahoma.

Following graduation from Rush Springs High School, Rep. Dorman earned a bachelor's of arts degree in political science from Oklahoma State University.

His career began as a mail clerk and runner for the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1994. After serving in several staff positions, Joe served as an assistant to the executive director of the House Stand and helped create the Pageville educational component for the high school pages that rotate each week through the Capitol.

After working in Washington, D.C. for a period of time, Rep. Dorman returned to the Oklahoma House of Representatives as the special projects coordinator for the House staff.

He resigned from the House of Representatives in 2002 to seek the state representative position in House District 65. He has continued to be re-elected since that time.
