YUKON, Oklahoma – Danielle Ezell, executive director of the Oklahoma Women’s Coalition, will focus on the status of women in Oklahoma and the Coalition’s legislative agenda during her presentation to the Canadian County Democrats on Monday, October 10.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard.

A passionate advocate for women, Danielle Ezell joined the OWC as executive director in 2015.

The Coalition is a statewide non-profit working to improve the lives of women and girls in Oklahoma.

Under Danielle’s leadership, the OWC had its most successful legislative session in its history in 2016.

“The Coalition introduced or supported a record breaking nine pieces of legislation that will make our state a better place for women,” Ezell explained.

In addition, OWC came very close to passing an equal pay bill

Despite passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, which requires that men and women in the same work place be paid equal pay for equal work, the "gender gap" in pay persists.

In 2014, the typical woman working full-time all year in the U.S. earned only 79 cents for every dollar earned by the typical man earned working full-time all year. The pay gap is even greater for African-American and Latina women, with African-American women earning 64 cents and Latina women earning 56 cents for every dollar earned by a white non-Hispanic man.

In addition to its advocacy work, the Coalition supports programs to develop women and girls as leaders to run for office, to fill seats on boards and commissions and to have influence on decisions made at the city, county and state levels.

OWC also raises awareness of issues impacting women in our state through various education efforts.

Danielle brings to the Coalition over 25 years of management, marketing, public relations and human resources experience. She is accredited in public relations and also earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification in 2015.

Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., she earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Syracuse University and a MBA from Oklahoma City University.

The Canadian County Democrats regularly meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, except December, at the Yukon Police Department located at 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard.
