El Reno student earns Canadian County Democrats’ scholarship

EL RENO, Okla. — DeVante Moore from El Reno is the winner of a $500 Robert “Bob” Burton Democratic Scholarship from the Canadian County Democrats.

Moore accepted the award from state Democratic Party Chair Wallace Collins at a Summer FUNraiser celebration at the Northwest Community Center in El Reno.

The scholarships are named in honor of the deceased former county Vice Chair Robert “Bob” Burton, who encouraged young Democrats to become active in the political party.

Burton’s widow Shirley is scholarship committee chair with Cathy Stanford and J. P. Hemminger. All are from Yukon.

Moore completed an associate in arts degree Connors State College in Warner.

As a sophomore guard for the Connors Cowboys basketball team, Moore averaged 9.1 points per game /
 He transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the UCO Mustangs.

The Canadian County Democrats have changed meeting locations due to the tornado destruction at Canadian Valley Technology Center. Until further notice, the group will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard in Yukon.
