EL RENO, Okla. – More than 100 students and their families picked up school supplies donated by the Canadian County Democrats on Saturday.

The event began at 30 minutes early at 9:30 a.m. to accommodate families already waiting at the Lord’s Harvest food bank in El Reno. The event ended a little early at 11:30 a.m. when all the supplies were distributed.

Volunteers registered voters of both political parties and accepted pages of signatures on the Take Shelter Oklahoma petition supporting funding for tornado shelters in public schools.
“Our school supply give-away gets bigger and every year,” Canadian County Democrats Chair Jody Harlan said. “We are happy to help families get some of the things they need to start the school year off right.”

The Canadian County Democrats meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month (except Dec.) at Yukon Police Department, 100 S. Ranchwood Boulevard, Yukon. For more information, call 405-354-3189.
