MEDIA RELEASE

DEMOCRATIC LEADERS TO SHARE STAGE JAN 12 AT CANADIAN COUNTY DEMOCRATS’ FIRST MEETING IN 2010

EL RENO, Okla. Susan McCann, chair of Change Oklahoma, and Rodney Boegel, secretary of the Canadian County Democrats, will share the stage at the first meeting of the new year on Tues., Jan. 12.

Seating is available on a first come, first served for the free event, which starts at 7 p.m. at Canadian Valley Technology Center, located at 6506 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.

McCann organizes and trains volunteers to support Democratic political candidates for Organizing for America (OFA) on behalf of the Obama administration. She will summarize activities completed and planned by her organization, Change Oklahoma.

“We are doing whatever it takes to turn our state blue,” McCann said. “But with 2010 elections just around the corner, it’s time to kick it up a notch.”

Since the 2000 presidential election, the Democratic Party is often referred to as "blue" and the Republican Party as "red” because TV reporters use the colors on state maps shown on election night.

Boegel is active in organizing voter registration drives in Canadian County and neighboring communities. He will conduct a workshop to prepare the audience to correctly register voters.

Decisions are made by those who show up,” Boegel said, “so we want to give Canadian County voters every opportunity to register and participate in the election process.”

The Canadian County Democrats meet at 7 p.m. on the second Tues. of each month (except Dec.) at Canadian Valley Technology Center.  For more information, call 354-3189 or visit http://www.canadiancodems.org/.
