EL RENO, Okla. – Lt. Governor Jari Askins, who recently won the nomination of the Democrat Party for governor, will speak to the Canadian County Democrats and guests on Tuesday, Aug. 10. The public is invited to attend the free meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Canadian Valley Technology Center, located at 6505 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.
Askins was the first Democratic woman elected Lt. Governor, the first woman to become Democratic Leader of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, the first woman to be elected State Representative from Southwest Oklahoma and the first woman to chair the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board.
“Jari Askins is on track to become the first woman elected governor of Oklahoma, but her campaign is bringing all Oklahomans together to build for the future, not about adding another first to her list of accomplishments,” said Canadian County Democrats Chair Jody Harlan.
“My husband Tim Wagner has been friends with Jari since high school when they served together as officers in a statewide church youth leadership organization,” Harlan said. “She believes that both political parties have to work together for the good of the state. That has been her throughout her career in public service and will guide when she is the next governor of Oklahoma.
The Canadian County Democrats meet at 7 p.m. on the second Tues. of each month (except Dec.) at Canadian Valley Technology Center. For more information, call (405) 354-3189.
