Community Action Agency presentation at Canadian County Democrats’ Sept 11 meetingled Post

YUKON, Okla. --  Carol McKinley, new area director for Community Action Agency in Canadian County, will speak to the Canadian County Democrats at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, about services that promote social and economic self-sufficiency for low-income people and communities.

Seating is available on a first come, first served basis at Canadian County Technology Center, located at 6505 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.

McKinley started as Community Action Agency area director on Aug. 6 and is looking forward to talking about services available in the county.

She was an educator for 38 years in Oklahoma, Texas and Las Vegas, Nev. A
Yukon High School graduate, she worked 29 years for Yukon Public Schools, serving as coordinator of the elementary Spanish program for 13 years and English Language Learners (ELL) program for 17 years.

McKinley received a bachelors’ of science in elementary education with a minor in Spanish from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She earned a master’s of education with an English Language Learners endorsement from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

She has twin sons, John and Jerry McKinley.

The Community Action Agency web site at states, “CAA empowers disadvantaged people by providing them with the tools to overcome poverty, live with dignity, and achieve their full potential. It emphasizes education, skilled job-training and asset development.”

CAA partners with businesses and other agencies on programs that address substance abuse, home repair, child-care, economic development, home ownership and those that help families in  times of crisis, including utility assistance in
winter, and rental assistance.
