Canadian County Democrats to hold precinct elections, town hall meeting March 9

CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. -- Democrats are invited to participate in meetings on Thursday, March 9, to elect local officers for more than 50 Canadian County neighborhoods, known as precincts. The meetings will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Canadian Valley Technology Center at 6505 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.

Openings are available for chairs, vice chairs and secretaries who will serve for two years.

Precinct elections are held in odd-numbered years.

Grassroots leaders elected will serve as voting delegates to the Canadian County Democrats’ county convention on Thurs, March 30. The delegates will also represent county Democrats at the district and state conventions later in the spring.

The group will hold a town hall meeting to gather input form participants following the precinct elections.

The meetings will be held in rooms 131 north & south and classroom 3 A/B. Participants are encouraged to park on the south side of building and enter through the middle entrance.

There is no charge to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

“If you or someone you know wants to become a grassroots leader, you have a great chance of being elected at the precinct meetings,” Canadian County Democrats Secretary Shirley Burton, from Yukon, said. “We can help you find your precinct, explain how the election process works and want to discuss how you would like to make a difference.”

Precinct officers may register voters in their neighborhoods, assist the county party with special events and help candidates during elections. Others are less active, but still important to the county party.

The Canadian County Democrats will not hold their regularly scheduled monthly meeting in March because the precinct meetings are scheduled so close to the regular meeting time.

The group normally meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month (except December) at the Yukon Police Department, 100 S Ranchwood. The next meeting after the elections will be April 10.
