All Democrats are encouraged to join the Canadian County Democrats at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, to elect officers for 50 neighborhoods known as precincts. The meeting will be held in the Canadian Valley Technology Center cafeteria at 6505 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.
Bean Supper Band members Tim O’Connor and Tim Wagner, both from Yukon, will entertain the group. Snacks will be served
Precinct officers may register voters in their neighborhoods, assist the county party with special events and help candidates during elections. Others are less active, but still important to the county party.
“If you or someone you know wants to become a grassroots leader, then getting elected to a precinct office is the place to start,” Secretary Shirley Burton, from Yukon, said. “We can help you find your precinct, explain how the election process works and find lots of opportunities to make a difference.”
Openings are available for chairs, vice chairs and secretaries who serve for two years. Elections are held in odd-numbered years.
Those elected to precinct offices will also elect county officers and delegates on Sat., April 09, in the seminar center at the same location. This group will represent county Democrats at the district and state conventions later in the spring.
The Democrats will not hold their monthly meeting on the second Tues. in March because the precinct meetings are scheduled so close to the regular meeting time.
The Canadian County Democrat meet at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (except March and Dec.). The next meeting is April 9 at Canadian Valley Technology Center.
