CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – Applicants have until 5 p.m. on May 20 to apply for the Canadian County Democrats’ $500 college or career tech scholarships to be awarded in memory of the organization’s former county vice chair. The application form is attached below.
To be eligible for the Robert "Bob" Burton Democratic Scholarship, students must be Democrats registered in Canadian County and enrolled in at least half-time at any accredited state-funded college, university or career technology center in Oklahoma.
Students of all ages may apply.
“The Canadian County Democrats have awarded scholarships for ten years because we are committed to getting young people involved in our work for the party,” Shirley Burton, scholarship committee chair said. “It’s a great way to show how much we care about the future of young Democrats and our state.”
Burton is the widow of Bob Burton, for whom the scholarships are named. She is secretary of the Canadian County Democrats.
Scholarship committee members include Lora Lee Cooley, Sarah Fraker and Burton.
Scholarship applicants must write a brief essay, complete answers to several questions and submit copies of their voter identification cards, along with scholarship applications.
Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
