EL RENO, OK — On Sunday, October 25th from 4 PM till 6:30 PM, Redlands Community College in partnership with The Coltrane Group will be sponsoring a free event in the Redlands Community College conference center, entitled "Black Towns Then... Black Towns Now," a panel discussion regarding the rise of All-Black Towns in the 19th century, their unique history and the opportunities and challenges that these towns provided and still do provide.

The panel includes Judge Henrietta Hicks, Municipal Judge of the town of Boley, Mayor Leon Anderson of Grayson, Dr. Alonzo F. Peterson, Trustee of the town of Langston, Mayor Keisha Gaines Currin of Tullahassee, along with a selection of writers to give their unique perspective on this topic.

The mayors and scholars will share why these villages lost population in the mid-20th century and what is happening now in the towns. This will be an interesting event for Oklahomans who want to know more about the unique history of Oklahoma’s All-Black Towns.

To RSVP for the event or to get more information go to the Redlands Community College website at https://www.redlandscc.edu/index.php?q=content/black-towns-then-black-towns-now.
