EL RENO, Okla.  – The Canadian County Democrats’ Vice Chair Tim O’Connor earned the 2015 Canadian County Democrat of the Year award at the organization’s recent BS and Beans fundraiser.

The event was held for the 10th year at Redlands Community College in El Reno.

Following the traditional beans and cornbread supper and a performance by the Bean Supper Band, Rep. David Perryman (D- House District 56) addressed approximately 60 guests at the event.

Oklahoma Democratic Party chair Mark Hammons presented the keynote address, outlining his concerns and strategic plans for the future. Hammons presided over a Democratic convention in July that debated and approved allowing Independents to vote in Democratic primaries for the first time in Oklahoma.

Hammons joined County Secretary Shirley Burton and Chair Jody Harlan on stage for awards presentation to O’Connor, whom Harlan recognized for “staying calm in a crisis, combining hard work with a sense of humor and a certain amount of musical talent.”

O’Connor is a guitar player in the Bean Supper Band. The band formed six years ago to entertain at the annual bean supper.

Other band members are Worth Lambert, Kingfisher; Ron Marlett, Bethany; and Tim Wagner, Yukon.

Hammons, Harlan and Burton awarded the 2015 Honorary Canadian County Democrat of the Year honors to Democratic Party Third Congressional District Vice Chair Mack Miller from Chester for his work to support Democrats in the county.

“Thanks very much to all our speakers, volunteers, the Bean Supper Band and sponsors who made the 10th Night of BS & Beans another big success,” Secretary Shirley Burton said. “This event just keeps getting better and better.”

Sponsors included: Mark and Laurie Hammons, Sarah Fraker, Bruce and Stephanie Fraker, Robert “Bob” Burton Family, Tom Guild, Kingfisher County Democrats and Worth and Paula Lambert, Tim Wagner and Cocina De Mino Mexican Restaurantés, Cassi Peters and Joe Hartman, Terry Thompson, Jenny Thompson, Dean Rinehart; Jim Huff; Cathy and Randy Stanford; Patricia Al-Sharif, Loralee Cooley and Kalynn Free.
