Young Democrat Kenna Baker from Yukon recently earned the Canadian County Democrats’$500 Robert "Bob" Burton Scholarship, which was presented June 18 at the organization’s Summer FUNraiser picnic at Lake El Reno.  The scholarship is named in honor of the deceased former county Vice Chair Robert "Bob" Burton, who encouraged his children and other young Democrats to become active in the political party.

Baker is pursuing a bachelor’s of fine arts degree with a double major in graphic design and studio art at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

She and her parents, Kenneth and Debbie, joined Canadian County Democrats and guests at the celebration in her honor, which featured a covered dish dinner and entertainment by the Bean Supper Band.

Baker, who is on the UCO President’s Honor roll with 4.0 grade point average, has also earned two College of Fine Arts and Design scholarships, the UCO Presidential Partners John and Eleanor Kirkpatrick Student Leadership and Public Service Gold Medal Award and more than 20 other scholarships and scholastic awards.

Baker completed 9 hours of advanced placement college credit before graduating as a valedictorian from Yukon High School in 2010. She was recognized as an Oklahoma Academic Scholar and actively participated in 4H, Odyssey of the Mind and other organizations in high school.
