Candidate for State Democratic Party Chair Dana Orwig to Present Platform April 12 to Canadian County Democrats

posted Apr 8, 2011, 10:13 AM by Jody Harlan

Church deacon and former teacher Dana Orwig will present a plan of action for strengthening the Oklahoma Democratic Party at a presentation to the Canadian County Democrats on Tues., April 12. Orwig is campaigning for state Democratic Party Chair.

Seating is available on a first come, first served for the free event, which starts at 7 p.m. at Canadian Valley Technology Center, located at 6506 E. Highway 66 between Yukon and El Reno.

“Our first step must be to rebrand our party and to frame the discussion on OUR terms and not those of the Republicans,” Orwig said. “For too long we have allowed Republicans to define who we are and what we stand for. We must immediately begin to put our time, energy and resources into an intensive and multi-faceted campaign to both improve the image of the Democratic Party and at the same time, define the Republicans and their policies on our terms.”

Orwig is a deacon, who works at St. John's Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City, where she and her husband Dr. Steve Orwig have lived for 30 years. She has taught in public and private schools in Oklahoma and Texas over the past 30 years.

Orwig and her husband have two married daughters and two grandsons, with a third expected in a few weeks.
Democrats are welcome to join the Canadian County Democrats, who meet at 7 p.m. on the second Tues. of each month (except Dec.) at Canadian Valley Technology Center.
